#leipzigbesetzen is an association of autonomously acting groups who want to resist a city policy of suppression.
We are tired of the fact that building projects, restructuring and modernisation rarely meet the interests and needs of the people who are actually affected by such measures. We are tired of urban planning and neighbourhood management trying to organise where and how we live. We want to oppose “upgradings” of the neighbourhoods that don’t actually improve the living of the district’s residents but merely serve the maximising of profits and forces those out of the neighbourhoods to work and live at the city’s outskirts who cannot keep up and don’t fit into the patterns. Which is mostly people who are already marginalized. We want to oppose practices and institutions that don’t leave and don’t want to leave spaces for self-organization and creativity but that patronize and normalize people and their various interests.
Reformist improvements don’t satisfy us. We want to proactively organize and shape our lifes and works ourselves. Therefor our means of action is squatting: Occupying vacancies and using them as affordable housing, as a place for socio-cultural creativity and neighbourly networking.
Our demand is to work together without hierarchies and in an emancipatory manner.
